What are the main differences between SAMM and WinSAMM?
WinSAMM is Windows based and mouse driven with site imaging layouts in PDF and JPG, sends reports by Email, warns user by pager or Email. Powerful Guard Round tool, invoice generator, pull down menus and many more features are part of WinSAMM. A spec sheet of WinSAMM along with a SAMM vs WinSAMM features table can be downloaded in PDF
Which operating systems can support WinSAMM?
To insure utmost stability in your Central Station we recommend and support WinSAMM under Windows XP or 2000.
What is the minimum requirements to run WinSAMM?
Windows XP and 2000 are tested and recommended. Windows 95, 98 and ME may work but WinSAMM is not tested nor supported under those OS.

.128 Mb of memory.
.40Mb hard disk space (for installation of application only. More space may be needed according to number of accounts)
.Acrobat Reader 5.1 (for use of PDF menus)
.Internet connection and outbound Email service (for use of Emailing functions).
.Minimum requirements may be higher according to alarm traffic or size database.
How can I add other stations to WinSAMM?
WinSAMM is sold per station. You can add stations one at the time once you have a stable network setup.
Can I use the trial version to monitor alarms?
Yes. The trial version is valid for two (2) months and is a complete version. It will stop functioning after two months unless you purchase a WinSAMM license.

How can I purchase WinSAMM after the trial period?
Contact MCDI sales department (514-481-1067) or your WinSAMM distributor.
A serial number is asked in the unlock menu. How do I get one?
MCDI provided a serial number if your purchased a license. It is in the WinSAMM binder if you have a printed copy or it was sent to you by MCDI or a WinSAMM distributor. If you don't have a serial number, you should escape from the unlock menu and contact MCDI or a WinSAMM distributor.
How will I know the remaining time of my trial period
In top blue bar, the number of days remaining is counted down. We recommend that you contact MCDI as soon as you decide to purchase a WinSAMM license to make sure you do not have an interruption of service.
I have SAMM 8. Can I upgrade to WinSAMM?
Data from SAMM 8 is automatically converted when you install WinSAMM. Data created in WinSAMM can't be used in SAMM once the conversion is done and WinSAMM is started but the installer makes a back-up copy of SAMM.
Can I use SAMM and WinSAMM back and forth in the same PC while I am familiarizing with WinSAMM?
SInce January 2005, this feature is not supported anymore in WinSAMM. SAMM is upward compatible only with WinSAMM. During the upgrade process, a back-up copy of SAMM is done by the installer should you wish to return to SAMM. However, all events and accounts added or modified in WinSAMM will not be available in SAMM.
How many receivers can I connect to WinSAMM?
Each station may connect up to 16 different receivers (unlimited number of stations on a network) but for practical reasons we recommend 4 receivers per station.
Can I upgrade my SAMM to WinSAMM?
Yes. When installing WinSAMM, you will have to specify if you are installing from SAMM 8.1 or SAMM 10. If SAMM is older than version 8, you will need to contact MCDI customer service or your WinSAMM distributor for a specific conversion.
If you downloaded WinSAMM from our Web site, it will be the trial version and you will be able to use it for a period of two (2) months. After that time, you will have to purchase a WinSAMM license or revert back to SAMM.

What is the price policy for upgrades from SAMM to WinSAMM?
Registered Users who purchased SAMM after January 1st 2002 are entitled to rebates when they purchase WinSAMM. Contact MCDI sales department or your WinSAMM distributor.
How can I get the Portuguese version?
The Portuguese is only available in the demo version or if unlocked to other levels by MCDI Do Brasil. Portuguese language is specific to a special unlock procedure. WinSAMM unlocked to another language will not display Portuguese. Contact MCDI for more information.
Adding new languages in WinSAMM
"Most of my operators don't read English." WinSAMM is currently available in 10 languages. English, Chinese (PRC), French, German, Greek, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish. You don't see your language in the list? We can arrange for WinSAMM to be recompiled with your translation. Et voilà!
Is WinSAMM compatible with my receivers?
WinSAMM and SAMM have the same receivers compatibility. Most receivers on the market are supported and already included in WinSAMM. A complete list is in the user manual or contact MCDI with specifications to check the compatibility.
With WinSAMM release what is the status on the development of SAMM?
Since 2003, all development efforts are now on WinSAMM and new functions are added exclusively in WinSAMM.
As of January 2005, MCDI stopped support in SAMM. Only SAMM users with support contract or warranty valid as of December 31st 2004 will receive support. SAMM license holders who purchased SAMM prior to 2004 should contact MCDI about special offers on WinSAMM.
I already have SAMM. Do I need to purchase WinSAMM?
Yes if you want to benefit from new features in WinSAMM or use a software developed specifically for Windows. WinSAMM has many new features such as images, PDF, Emailing and SMS messages not available in SAMM. If you are a SAMM user, you may be eligible for an upgrade price when purchasing WinSAMM.

SECURITHOR FAQ
What is SECURITHOR?
SECURITHOR is MCDI Security Products new CMS software which replaces WinSAMM. SECURITHOR assembles all the familiar functions of WinSAMM in a new programing with advanced user interface and SQL engine and database. Several new modules will be added to SECURITHOR line card such as the WAM - web access module for SECURITHOR.
If I already purchased WinSAMM, will I receive an upgrade to SECURITHOR?
You are entitled to a discount on SECURITHOR ST1. Please contact MCDI with your serial number. Free upgrade promotion from WinSAMM to SECURITHOR finished with the release of SECURITHOR ST1.
Is SECURITHOR different from WinSAMM?
Yes and NO. It is a completely new software programmed from scratch. However in adopting several of the WinSAMM conventions, we made sure that operators of WinSAMM could switch to SECURITHOR easily.
SECURITHOR will come with an installer and import tool from WinSAMM.

How to unlock WinSAMM after trial period?
Please visit securithor.com as WinSAMM WSUU1 is not available anymore.
You need to purchase a WinSAMM license. Call MCDI SP customer service or your WinSAMM distributor. Once you have purchased a licence, you can unlock by going to the F8 menu and clicking on the key icon. Enter the information and send your contact info along with identification and validation code to MCDI Security Products. This can be sent various way, by fax, by email to support@mcdi.com
or by filling a form on MCDI Security Products web site at http://mcdi.com/unlock. MCDI Security Products will send back an unlock in the best delays.
How to switch languages?
In the main menu select F8 (General Information) and double click on the earth icon or right click and select 'language'. The language menu will then open. Select the language you want and click on 'OK'. Menus will switch to this language. Some languages like Portuguese and Russian need a specific unlock level.
Where do I go to connect my receivers
Included in WinSAMM installation is an application called WSReceiver, Use it to add receivers to WinSAMM. You can access WSReceiver while you are in the main menu by selecting WSReceiver in the drop down menu.
Windows XP or 2000 is recommended for WinSAMM. My old TLR+ does not work well under WIndows XP or 2000. What can I do?
TLR+ were designed before WIndows 2000 or XP were launched and they are ISA type, not plug and play like Exprecium (PCI bus). It is difficult to set a non plug and play device in Windows 2000 or XP. We recommend conversion of TLR+ rev. 4-5-6 or 7 to SA-TLR+or using TLR+ with RACK24 application (freeware) in a dedicated PC. Please contact our support department with your equipment serial number to inquire about price of conversion or support options for RACK24

Can I download the documentation?
Yes. On our web site winsamm.com there is free PDF documentation that can be downloaded. This document should be read to grasp the general concept of the system before attempting to put it into operation.
Can I get someone to teach me WinSAMM?
Yes. Some of our support staff have more than 10 years of experience with our Central Station softwares. They, can travel or make tutorial sessions by PC Anywhere. To know how to proceed, contact MCDI SP customer service. MCDI SP is also publishing tutorials from time to time.

Can I replace the main image with my company image?
Yes. On your local disk (the one where you installed WinSAMM, for example drive C) find the folder SAMM. Select that folder and find a JPG image file: winsamm_screen.jpg. You can replace this image by your own (must be JPG format and dimensions 786 x 420 pixels 72 dpi). Rename it winsamm_screen.jpg. The main menu image will be replaced by your own, next time you start WinSAMM.
Can I replace the sounds in WinSAMM.
Yes. On your local disk (the one where you installed WinSAMM, for example drive C) find the folder SAMM. Inside is a folder named Sounds. All the sounds used WinSAMM are in this folder and are named after their priority levels. For example P4Sounds.wav: this sound will be heard when receiving a priority 4 event. Sound have to be in wav format. Try to keep the size of the wav file as low as possible.
Can I send automatic messages by pager?
Yes. In the alarm codes page menu, you can enter a pager number (numeric or alpha) for one or more alarm codes: Select the alarm code then go in pager/e-mail, select the corresponding pager then enter the number. Also in the Type page, select pager/email. So every time the Central receives that alarm code, an automatic message will be sent over on the pager.
Can I send automatic messages by email?
Yes. The same way as an automatic message by pager.
Can I send automatic messages by SMS?
WinSAMM SMS capacity is by emailing. If the corresponding phone has an email address, you can send your message by email.
Can I use a modem to dial phone numbers automatically?
Yes. In the main menu, select F8 (General Information/Monitoring Information) on the last line, you will have Automatic Dial Modem Port. Select the required COM Port.
WinSAMM asks for an operator number and password. I did not set anything.
For security purposes, WinSAMM asks for Operator ID and password at several control points. The default setting in the trial is 1 (operator) and winsamm (password). These value can be changed.
Can I change WinSAMM directory name.
No! The directory's name is SAMM. We kept this name to insure compatibility with SAMM 10.3. Both SAMM and WinSAMM expect to find components in that folder.

How should I backup WinSAMM?
If you have downloaded WinSAMM after December 15th 2004, a new back-up tool is included. No need to close WinSAMM to do back-ups! This feature is accessible from the pull down menu. For older WinSAMM, we recommend you make a copy of the whole SAMM directory and keep it in a safe place that is not on the same computer as your working WinSAMM.

On which operating systems can I run SAMM?
DOS 6.22, Windows 3.1, Windows 95SE, 98 and ME
Can I buy a backup software SAMM?
Yes. For 30% of the regular price.
I installed a 75 account version of SAMM. How do I unlock SAMM to get more clients?
SAMM is not sold anymore by MCDI . You should look into WinSAMM. A 2months free trial is available for download.

Can I use the demo version to run a Central Station? Yes, the demo version works until 75 accounts altough it is not supported or under warranty. Technical assistance is not available anymore for new SAMM installations. MCDI SP recommands you install WINSAMM.
When will WinSAMM be available?
It is available since June 2003. Now in more than10 languages.
How can I update SAMM 8 to SAMM 10?
This procedure is not supported anymore by MCDI SP. However update of the database of SAMM is part of a WinSAMM migration and included in the price of WinSAMM.
I start SAMM and I have a message: 'In use by another operator'? What should I do?
You have to exit from SAMM (F6) to DOS and write the command: C:\SAMM\RAZSAMM. Answer YES to continue and you should be able to start SAMM again.

I want to continue using SAMM only in DOS. Do you have an installer for this? SAMM installer is not avaialble for download anymore. SAMM is not support anymore by MCDI SP. MCDI SP recommands WinSAMM. A replacement copy of your SAMM may be obtain from MCDI SP if you have a registered copy of SAMM. Contact MCDI SP sales at +(514-481-1067) or by Email sales@mcdi.com.
SAMM asks me an operator number and a password. What is this?
For security reasons, you need a password and an operator number to access SAMM or to pass trough some control points in SAMM. There is a default operator number and password:
Operator number: 1
Password : SAMM
Can I use SAMM in a network?
New SAMM network installation are not available anymore. If you purchased SAMM prior to 2005 you should contact MCDI SP to discuss options such as migration to WinSAMM or Cybersamm. Contact MCDI SP sales at +(514-481-1067) or by Email sales@mcdi.com.
