New automated backup function in WinSAMM
Starting in version 1.2 of WinSAMM, MCDI added a new way to do backups without the need to close WinSAMM. This function can be set to automatic or manual back-up.
Configuration and manual backup are restricted to authorized users only (level A users). They can configure the interval of time between back-ups and the content of the back-up (level A users). If your operators do not have a level A access, they will not be able to change the settings you entered. Of course you can decide to make a back-up whenever you need it and can turn the automatic function to off.
The back-up data can be sent to any hard disk or compatible writable media on your network. WinSAMM will check if the space is available on the media.Once completed, a log entry of each back-up is made in the alarm traffic list of WinSAMM.
To restore a backup made from the automatic backup function of WinSAMM, simply use the application 'bkrestore' that is in the SAMM folder and follow on screen instructions.
If you have an older WinSAMM version, you can update it to add this feature by downloading and running the updater in WinSAMM installer. MCDI offers a support plan specifically for upgrades which includes upgrade to latest version and one month of business hours support.

Changing sounds in WinSAMM
WinSAMM alarm processing is linked to alert sounds. 12 of them in fact. They are categorized along 10 alarm priority levels and 2 type of notifications. Notifications are used by WinSAMM when an operator is using another menu. Priority sounds are used when the operator is in the F1 monitoring menu. Each priority level has it's own sound.
If you like to change the sounds in WinSAMM to reflect your needs or to use a sound that is more evocative for you, it's easily done. Just create WAV files of the sounds you like and change them respecting the file names tagged according to priority levels. Each file name in the samm>sounds folder is associate with a level from P0sound.wav to P9sound.wav. Operator notifications are in the same folder and labeled Notify.wav and Notify1.wav.
Converting sounds to wav file is easy when using such tools as Lavavo CD ripper. MCDI South american support department producted short PDF tutorlals (in English and Spanish) on converting audio files to .WAV with this shareware tool.

From SAMM to WinSAMM
SAMM is an old friend to us but after nearly 10 years of proven success, it's time to retire. Less and less centrals are running this older DOS program and the advent of new reliable operating systems and faster machines make a demand for new features that can not be added to SAMM. MCDI will stop developement and support in SAMM as of March 1st 2005. SAMM unlocks will still be available to registered users and all of SAMM data will still be compatible with WINSAMM and CYBERSAMM when you upgrade from SAMM.
The same development team that made SAMM and WinSAMM will now concentrate on WinSAMM and CYBERSAMM. MCDI will announce roll out dates and options of CYBERSAMM later in 2005. This new software will give the flexibility and stability of a MySQL database in order to use such features as strong server base, web access to data, flexible reports, multisite operation and redundant operation.
To ease transition from SAMM to WInSAMM, all SAMM registered users are entitled to a special

Decrypta2 USB compatible with WinSAMM
MCDI recently launched Decrypta2 . This advanced Alarm Receiver is equipped with serial and USB outputs, both compatible with WinSAMM. Several D2 can be plugged easily into one computer using a USB hub thus eliminating the need of expensive serial port replicators.
Built on the legacy of Decrypta receivers, D2 is packed with even more features than its predecessor like 2 ouputs, 2 electrical inputs and a much faster handshaking with alarm panels. A free windows logger is supplied with Decrypta2 if you wish to use the second output for logging either on your main computer or on a second computer. The logger can replace a printer!

Adding PDFs to WinSAMM accounts.
In WinSAMM, you can link a PDF file to each account. This PDF file can then be brought on screen to view supplemental information about the account. PDFs are very versatile and can be multi-pages, hold images or even video clips. Acrobat reader is free and comes with such tools as search, zoom and bookmarks.
PDF files can be used to view information such as complete maps, employee IDs, medical files, reparation logs and can be customized to fit your needs.
Several office applications can now generate PDF files and of course you can use Acrobat from Adobe to edit and customized your PDF files.

WinSAMM sends emails.
Each time predefined alarm codes are received, WinSAMM can send an email to alert of inform you customer. This can be done without operator invervention and can be personnalized for each of your customers and for each alarm code....Another nice way to get more billing opportunities from your Monitoring Equipment!
WinSAMM sends SMS over GSM
WinSAMM is now able to send predifined SMS messages when using it with a Sony Ericson GSM modem. SMS messages can be sent automatically to pre-selected accounts and alarm codes.
